I’ve been an Ipsy member for quite some time now. I really like how they send us different skin care and makeup products based on our beauty preferences. Sometimes I even get makeup brushes in my monthly glam bag! We select our preferences when we sign up for the subscription. You have the option to change your preferences throughout the year.
Per month, the subscription costs $10USD. They also have an option to pay upfront $110USD for a year. I pay for the yearly subscription because I like the thought of getting one free Ipsy bag per year. They offer major discounts on their full size products that they feature in each of the glam bags.
My January 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag includes the following items:
- Manna Kadar Cosmetics Paradise Blush
- Pur~lisse Blue Lotus Seed 5-in-1 Mud Mask
- Temptu Base Smooth & Matte Primer
- theBalm Cosmetics Bahama Mama Bronzer
- IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Anti-Aging Concealer (light)
I was able to try two of the products this month. I’ll be reviewing the bronzer and the mud mask.
Pur~lisse Blue Lotus Seed 5-in-1 Mud Mask
The product contains a lot of ingredients that are beneficial for the skin.
- Blue lotus extract is an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory benefits.
- White clay tightens skin and purifies pores.
- Bamboo improves skin texture.
- Ginger detoxifies the skin.
- Mushroom extract brightens skin tone.
- White tea soothes the skin.
- Rice bran water improves skin texture.
I applied a thin layer of the mask to my cleansed face.
After about 15 minutes, I washed off the mask with water in a circular motions. It contains little beads that help exfoliate the skin.
My skin felt very smooth and clean! It’s recommended that you use the mask 2-3 times a week. I feel like the best time to apply this mask is right before you shower so you can wash it off while you clean the rest of your body.
theBalm Cosmetics Bahama Mama Bronzer
I really love bronzer. It can help define a lot of features when it comes to your appearance. Bronzer is normally used for contour but you can use it as an eyeshadow as well. Check out my review on a Lorac Eyeshadow palette here.
The bronzer I currently use is the Benefit Hoola bronzer, which I purchase from Sephora for $29USD. I really like it because of the subtle pigmentation. I hit pan twice already. I’m on my third one! It’s a lot of people’s holy grail makeup product.
I wanted to compare theBalm’s Bahama Mama to Benefit’s Hoola. TheBalm Bahama Mama retails for $20USD. Just by the look, it seems like theBalm is a little darker than the Benefit bronzer. They’re both matte with no shimmers. Here are the swatches!
The colors are extremely similar when applied to the skin. It’s very smooth and blendable. I think theBalm Bahama Mama and Benefit Hoola could be dupes!
I used a thin brush to draw the areas of my face that I wanted to define. Side note, I recently cut my hair for lunar new years. I’m still trying to get use to my bangs. It’s very different than what I’m use to.
Then blend, blend and blend! 😄
Overall, I really like the two products that I was able to try for the month of January 2017. Looking forward to what products I’ll be sent for the month of February!
Until next time!
P.S. For those of you wondering what my skin type is, I have oily/combination skin. Something to note; remember that your skin is part of your body. It needs different types of nutrients to maintain a healthy complexion. It’s the same idea as how your body physically needs different vitamins to be healthy. You need a balance diet with fruits, veggies and protein. So don’t just stick to one type of product or one brand because you wouldn’t only eat broccoli for the rest of your life. Toodles! 😊
